Bird watching is an activity that can be undertaken all year round. More than a half of the 41 species of birds that reproduce in Cape Verde can be found in Boa Vista.
You will explore the unique habitat for reproduction of the bird Fregata magnificens, which is a species on the brink of extinction, with only 2 males and 2 females. Other species that can be seen there are the Cagarra (Calonectris edwardsii), Canhota ou Abutre (Neophron pernopterus), Garça-real (Ardea cinerea), and Alcatraz (Sula leucogaster).
Your guide during this excursion is a specially qualified expert that will be able to explain everything about these birds and answer any questions you may have.
As the zones which you visit are close to all the major hotels and residential areas, there is minimal time needed for transport. The excursion can be in the morning (between 8h00 and 12h00) or in the afternoon (between 14h00 and 18h00).
- Duration: 4 hour(s)
- Location: Boa Vista Island
The activities begin at the mouth of the riverside of Rabil, where the guide gives a briefing about the characteristics of the places that will be visited, and provides a list of common species of bird found in this area, as well as the expectations during the excursion. You will then head off to the dyke of Monte Trigo, which is an important reserve of fresh water in Boa Vista that has great ecologic interest.
